Taking on our mannerisms/sayings

ToAudrey

I think someone already has mentioned something like this before. So unPDH is still charting on the phone nearly constantly to one of two or three newish friends and I usually tune it out as what on earth can you talk about for 5-7 hours a day and not interact with your kid? But I'm picking up sometimes him saying things that are common jokes/anecdotes from shows that I say a lot. Maybe just natural picking up on mannerisms of those around you? Or PD behavior? Just. It sure anymore.

ToAudrey

*not sure (didn't catch that typo until just now)

Just wishful thinking that if he is lifting anything from my words/acts it could be something like 'interacting with child',  'helping with dishes'.

Yeah right, it's never something useful like that. It's not anything like "help ToAudrey", it's only ever "use ToAudrey to help myself".

My pdh absorbs and recycles my stories and such.  He used to quiz me when I came home from church etc, looking for stimulation, gossip, a story, anything from outside.  I would later hear him repeating such things to the guys he goes to talk with down the street, or out in the store or at the bank etc.

Not sure about the copying part but I DEFINITELY relate to husband being absorbed in phone and never present/hardly interacting w kid or me.

tragedy or hope

Absolutely. All the time. Unnerving since I HAVE a personality. He speaks my thoughts before I do with others. Sometimes when he sounds a little ignorant about the topic he will actually look to me and say "you tell them, you know about all this."
I know I am with someone who is not normal. I look at it as if I were with one of my children. Unpdh also lives on his tablet, playing games. Phone is the pacifier. I don't mean to be cruel. He cannot deal with silence or self-examination, and is terrible at original thinking in conversation with me.
Believe it or not... he is still lovable. He knows his shortcomings... and has accepted that I know them too.
Weird. Painful at times, but I am free in my own paradigm... the way I see the 🌎.

Believe it the first time, or you will spend the rest of your life in disbelief of what they can/will do; to you. T/H

Yes, yes and yes,

My PDh even takes things that have happened to me, or things I have said, or someone says to me and makes them into "I said", etc. (as if he were me or the other person).

I ignored it for many years. It struck me as kind of....pitiful.

When he finally told me "I nearly died laughing" at something my sister had whispered to me...right in my ear (and he could not possibly have heard) I for once called him on it. He actually looked surprised and I'm not sure he was surprised at ME. I think he had convinced himself that he was - what? between her mouth and my ear???? - that he believed it had happened like he thought!  :stars:
