Wow.  He was served less than a week ago and hasnt responded yet, but we already have a scheduling conference set by the court.   :stars:  my attorney had told me it would likely not be until April, so I'm stunned that it is less that a month away.  She said before that we should waive the hearing on support.  He is currently unemployed, so it wont do me much good.  We have a written support agreement.  He just isnt following it.  I have lots of questions for her, but she had said it wont be a big deal.  She offered to conference with me if I'm really worried about it, but I dont want to pay her extra if it really is no big deal.  Id rather save $ for thr bigger fights.  Any advice on what to look out for?

I would ask her what happens if he doesn't show and then have a plan to push through. It's unlikely that he will show and it's very likely that he will drag this on for as long as possible. He is in active addiction so not thinking straight and it sounds like his parents have deep pockets. Neither he nor his parents will benefit from this divorce, they have everything to lose and nothing to gain. You however can only gain from a divorce.

Looking back on my divorce I wish I'd gone in hard from the start and that is my advice for any of my friends now.

It's unlikely he will ever get sober so there's little point fighting over things like support etc. His patently will likely support him all his life and you can't get anything from them.

In my divorce my focus was on getting legally free of him and on holding on to my own assets. I did end up spending more on a second attorney but it ultimately saved me a fortune in the long run.

With the current state of courts where I live, things seem like they are happening, then are continued last minute.  The scheduling conference I believe is called something slightly different where I am.  Here it is essentially where the opposing counsels and the judge find suitable dates for hearings, etc.  I didn't need to do anything for that here.

From the outset, I have been staying on top of financial documents. Off the bat, I spent the better part of a weekend pulling documents, and building a spreadsheet in Google sheets.  We have used that spreadsheet throughout the entire process, as things have negotiated back and forth.  Stbx's lawyer basically comments back 1-2 sentences of what works, and what they want to change. My lawyer's secretary, or I, edit from there.  Yes, my lawyer and myself are doing most of the leg work to get to a settlement, but eye on the prize.  With my particular stbxPd, he thinks the work I've done to prepare is useless, and beneath him, to worry about such details.  I'm using that to my advantage.

Best wishes!
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
