Wondering if anyone has an opinion on this.

My therapist uses gestault. He wants me to speak to my inner child. Visualize myself st 5 or 6 and soothe him in the circumstances and switch roles. The theory js that in this way I can learn to soothe myself and need nothing for others so that I may be healthy.

Idk but I'm working on it and have been really suffering after a relationship for near 4 months now

CBT I am told, doesnt address what happened as a child, it identifies problematic patterns and resolves them?.

Anyone tried both?

I had therapy through an online counseling platform. The therapist was specialised in CBT and recommended me Gestalt therapy after I told her that I suspected my family of origin has a narcissistic dynamic. At the time, I was also feeling some kind of anxiety around who I was. I was feeling a lot of emotions that I could trace back to my childhood. When I explained these things, she said that what I told her was way over her head and a counselor who specializes in Gestalt therapy might be better for me. But, then, I didn't hear from the therapist recommended to me, and I lost interest in the process while I was waiting. So, I didn't get to do the Gestalt one but I liked the idea of it when I read about it. The thing is, I think that I did what you describe in your post without knowing it was a thing. I had become self aware some of the emotions I felt from time to time were the emotions I felt as a child. So, I would still like to try it at some point but I don't know when. It would be nice if you talked more about your therapy process because when this therapy was recommended to me, I had wondered if anybody here tried it.
