Question about finding a mover

The Hidden Lady

Good afternoon lovely ladies and gentlemen.

I'm a long time reader on the boards and first time poster. I just want to start off by saying each and every story I've read on here has inspired me in some way. I especially love the stories of the people who have escaped their lives and are learning to thrive again.

I have spent the last few years in a 20 year relationship trying to untangle the complete mindclusterfudge that I was under for much of the first part of the relationship. I had no idea my "overreactions" to truly horrible behavior were actually correct reactions and the person doing the things to get me to react was in the wrong.

I am SO CLOSE to my goal of getting out. I've snuck things out into a storage unit and then later into my own new to me apartment.

One last thing left to do, get me, my cat and the last of my things out.
I have an online business and I honestly can't just leave my things that took years to accumulate for my business, especially in the time of covid and factory shortages.

I have very littleft here in the way of personal belongings and I'm fairly certain an hour or two is all a moving company would need to get my stuff out.

That being said, I've heard of this option some moving companies have where they have experience with divorce moves and getting things out quickly, but for the life of me, I don't know how to find such a service.

Is there a secret handshake or code word that I'm missing?

I've called two companies so far and even made an appointment with one, which later i canceled when the husband came to the house earlyand too close to the mentioned two hour window. They both had high reviews from people and online but their appointments are too similar to the cable companies timelines with their "two hour windows".

None of the times I've been given will work. I need to hire a couple of movers to come exactly at the time set, get in, get out and be done. I have a small window of time where the soon to be exhusband has never come home early and that's my sweet spot I'm shooting for.

I peed a friend north of me who is trying to get her son and some friend lined up but said "if you find that around here, please let me know. I have friends who could definitely use 'the crazy husband move service' her words.

Is there a term I should be googling?  I can load most of my stuff myself but without exposing who I am, I can't say what my too heavy to move equipment is that I would really like to not leave behind is. I need at least a second person for that.

Thanks so much for any advice or help.

It's a wonderful board you folks have here and I've learned so much and so many stories are so similar to mine which has given me strength to know my gut really is right and to trust it more.

I have no idea where you're located (nor do I need to know). But here's one place I found when I did a quick internet search just now, using "moving services experienced with divorce" as the search words.

Good for you, The Hidden Lady, for taking the initial steps to prepare.

I do not have experience in this area, as I was the one who remained in the home when I divorced my bpdxh.

I did have a thought, and I am not sure that it applies to you (though your wanting to leave without your husband knowing leads me to believe that it might). Have you considered contacting a local domestic violence group/hotline? It is likely that they have an established list of resources, such as moving companies, that would be sensitive to such a time critical type of move.

Thanks so much for the replies.  I meant to respond sooner, but I've been trying to catch up on work and "spring clean" everything to make things easier to pick up and go.
I hadn't thought of going to the domestic shelter websites.  Thanks for the suggestion.  I guess it's probably because I'm not in the situation where I'm getting hit or phsycally threatened.  Mine is just general mind screwing, gaslighting, word salad, circular arguments, "harrassing" (his word for random gropings that I have to tolerate or he sulks like a spoiled child) grey rock grey rock grey rock.  At least I'm no longer servicing his needs *barf*  I put a stop to that 5 years ago when I realized what was going on. At the time, I told him I blamed the extreme partying and drinking on that and now I'm "just bitter and am punishing him" his words, not mine.  Fine, whatever works.  I'm not going back to being his blow up doll with the mouthpiece. (Okay, I might be bitter.  LOL) But anybody who can brag about how they "devistated that p%$$#" after being too rough and selfish can deal with some "bitterness".

I'll see if I can call some more places when I'm at work. I'm tempted to just rent a van and make a makeshift ramp and just roll the heavy stuff up in there and hope for the best.  Getting it up the stairs at the new place might be a challeng, but one challenge at a time.

My friend hired a couple of guys off of Craig's List to move her stuff out when fleeing her violent partner. YMMV.

I completely forgot about Craigslist!  I'll go have a look!  Thanks
