Tonight my teenager was upset about a situation with a boy.  I feel so blessed to be her mommy and be there to support her through this time of her life.  I saw her upset.   I saw her snuggle her stuffed animal.  She cried in my arms.   I helped her find her voice with the boy.

History won't repeat itself.   It won't.  I am not her.  I'm so thankful as blessed that she feels safe to confide in me.   Just want to spread some hope.  (Things are by no means resolved with the situation, but she does appear a little lighter.  Boys suck.  High school sucks! )

As I look down at my own two week old daughter, I really, really feel the importance of doing the same in my life and hers.

Well done, Justme729. Good job indeed. :yourock:

Lasting happiness is not something we find, but rather something we make for ourselves.

Good for you! I love to see posts like this.

My little guy is only five, but we're raising him so differently than I was raised. He's allowed to be sad, to be messy, to be scared, to be soft. He's not afraid of making mistakes. He loves to make us laugh because he knows we are laughing with delight, not mocking him. He's allowed to be human.

I never had children myself, but when I was thinking about it I talked to my therapist a lot about my fears of becoming my mother. She told me that children of narcissists are usually excellent mothers because they try so hard not to repeat the pattern of abuse.

I'm so happy that you have a great relationship with your teenage daughter and that she has the kind of mother she deserves. Well done!

Good for you Justme, your dd has your confidence in her teenage years, it's here to stay!
What great news to share.  Proof, you are  good mother that is there for her.

So happy for all of you and your happy, much cherished children. We forget how wonderful , how frankly miraculous, has been our Recovery so that we don't parent like our parents. We should be very proud of ourselves. We should all remind ourselves of these things when we are feeling low.
It gets better. It has to.

Thank you guys!   Its been a really rough 18 months or so.  Even before Covid.  She really just needs her mom and I'm being tested like hell right now.
