Will this NC strategy work or will it blow up in my face?

My nod enmeshed parents operate differently. Nmom is malevolent, grandiose, and "queen bee". Ndad pretends to be "Mr Nice Guy", but demands absolute compliance from family, friends, and acquaintances, otherwise enraged if met with any resistance or perceived disobedience.  The insincere niceness is scarier.  Neither parent was genuinely concerned for my welfare when I was a child, nor gave any consideration to my feelings or own emotional needs. Plainly stated, I wasn't "allowed" my emotions, nor to expect them to be acknowledged.

But look at how you have survived and how young you were when you figured out the situation! I always knew something was off in my family but it took me years (into my 30s) to understand. And the whole SC/SC thing wasn't even on my radar screen until much later. Can you believe that despite all the counseling I sought, not one single person ever mentioned GC/SC?

Same here! I was 35 when I finally started to figure it out. That's when I was diagnosed with GAD and had to see a psychiatrist, and in the process, she told me that my mother had NPD. That was back in the 90s and there still wasn't a lot of really good info out there regarding the family structure and the role of the children. That came later. And I wouldn't/couldn't accept the role that my enabling father played until fairly recently. They say that children have to believe that one parent loves them in order to survive, and I really clung to hope, but I've let go of that now. I'm 62 this year and am still working through things but I'm getting there. At least the resources are available to us now to help us understand these disordered people and get the support we need.

The generation before us didn't have forums like this one, YouTube videos, and so on, so in that respect, I guess we're lucky.
