The maybe final straw

Been absent for a bit as I've been without a computer.
So grandma's been getting worse, being her royal anxious highness. Wants everything just so, but can't do it herself and is driving everyone up the wall as a result. She thinks it was great that next door neighbor went into assisted living  but can't see that for herself. More fuss and stress.
I'm in a community band, and we are performing with appropriate precautions at a local church in a few weeks, and guess who will be performing a masterwork piece as the featured soloist? Kind of a big deal as it's the first time I've done one with full band.
So mom asks if she wants to come. No, she would rather stay home in her own little box and not disrupt her schedule. Oddly enough I'm not feeling as crushed as folks might expect. It stings a bit, but I will have at least some of the folks I want there.

I can see why you wouldn't be crushed by it, even if a perfect world your Grandma would be less focussed on her schedule, and come out and appreciate your solo performance.

After all, it sounds like you are full of thinking about others' needs, and likely could use a break.

Playing sounds like a wonderful way to step away from those tasks, and celebrate you.

I suggest scheduling some self care after your performance.

A featured soloist...very impressive! Congratulations OddFamily. I'm sure it's disappointing that grandma would rather stick to her important schedule than see you perform. But it's good you won't have to witness her sour mood if something isn't going her way.

Thanks everyone.  But if the horrid inconvenience of (wait for it) having to have dinner early 1 night is too much for her, I wonder if I should issue any invitations to forthcoming events.
Dress rehearsal is this afternoon, concert in a week.  We have a band dinner beforehand, so we'll have some fun beforehand, and they're all a good bunch of folks.

Just got back, it went great.  Had one tiny hiccup, had to delay going on by a minute to remove a spitball that had lodged in the instrument, but one quick swipe with my rag, change to a fresh reed, and problem solved.
Dinner beforehand was great and had a lot of friends that couldn't come due to prior commitments, but my parents and my band friends were there.

Thanks.  Wind musicians have a very blasé attitude about spit, and I forget it does not carry over to the rest of the population.

Always hated the odor of a band room.  Yeah I quess to he wood winds and brass players are immune to spit. 

Being a string player, I will take pine rosin over spit anyway.
