It's always and only about her

Thru the Rain

So I broke my arm last week (nothing drastic - I'm in a range of motion brace for the next 6 weeks).

I mentioned it to my uPDM during one of our rare phone calls.

Her response: "Your sister broke her arm about 10 years ago. I guess I'm just a Mom who's daughters have both broken their arms".

It was all I could do to keep from bursting out laughing. So transparently self-absorbed and self-centered!

I'm so grateful for this site - without the time I've spent here learning about personality disorders I wouldn't have known how to even feel about such a non empathetic statement from her.

Unreal isnt it?!! I probably would have laughed, yep it's all about you mom!!

OMG, as I was reading your post, I heard this statement in my mother's voice. Because it is always, always, always about them.

foggyme

Haha it's funny how self centered they are, isn't it?

Hilltop

OMG that is funny, not one question about how you are going, just me me me.

MIB

Yup...sounds about right 🙄

Glad you got a laugh out of it - they say it's the best medicine 😜

Wishing it a speedy recovery!

OMGoodness, I laughed out loud when I read your post.   My mom does the same.  In one week me and both siblings had a terrible turn of events...downsized, separation, and accident.   Her response was that she must be a terrible mom for all these things to befall her children....which might be accurate if we weren't all over 40 instead of under 18.
Then again, married mom managed to catch the bouquet at my wedding to steal a little bit of attention.    :stars:

Thru the Rain, I hope you heal well!

Your post reminded me of a time when I was a teenager my uBPDm asked me to take out the trash. There was a lot of ice when I took it out and I slipped and fell right on my back. I didn't get injured, but at the time it hurt!

When I got home and told my uBPDm, she said: it's not my fault that you fell.

A stranger would have asked me if I was okay. But my mother preferred to convince herself that it wasn't her fault because she was the one who asked me to take out the garbage! Everything is always about her  :stars:

My 1st child's birth included emergency c-section. Nmom barged into post-op recovery room, "to see HER baby", despite nurses chasing after her, despite my instructions to everyone "no family during labor, not until after birth and cleanup".  She appalling insisted "all their friends attended their grandchildren's deliveries", meaning both maternal grandparents!  Rules don't apply!  Not to HER!

My parents visited hospital daily, never brought food, despite noted problems with food delivery at hospital (visible mold on food, cold and unpalatable, if meals even delivered), I left hospital at pre-pregnancy weight.   No niceties from HER, those flows only in one direction - to her.

Released from hospital arriving home, she then regaled me post-partum with her stories of what a horrible birth I was, how she was sick afterwards, didn't bond, didn't breast feed, it was hot, blah, blah, blah, and oh, what can I get her for lunch?

Cat of the Canals

This sounds exactly like something PDmil would say.

Hope you heal quickly!!

mary_poppins

Sorry, that is horrible what she said! truly horrible.

I hope your arm will heal up quickly.

It reminds me of the Twitter account "How can I make this about me."  ;) Sometimes laugh at it is all you can do.

Boat Babe

Funny. Not funny at all. Gargh.

My mother made my giving birth all about her as well  :jawdrop:
It gets better. It has to.

Lilyloo

Always and forever about them!!   Here's wishing you a fast recovery!  :bighug:
