Hello,

I am new here.  Found you through Rebecca Mandeville's website on Scapegoated Children.
I am 54 and was emotionally neglected and verbally abused my entire childhood.  My therapist believes I have CPTSD and I am open-minded enough to entertain this idea.   I have several of the behaviors indicative of this including feeling worthless, imposter syndrome, isolating, inner critic, making excuses for my mom, suicidal ideation (for as long as I can remember), etc.   So many more - but you know how that goes.   I am here to learn and hopefully figure out how to heal and go forward without all of the inner shame that has been at the core of me forever.  Thanks for allowing me to be here.

PhoenixRising7 - hi there and welcome to Out of the FOG. I am so glad you have found us and joined this warm and supportive community of fellow travelers.

At the same time, I am so sorry for the pain you have endured and the way that is showing up in your health and well being. As another adult child of emotionally neglectful and verbally abusive parents, I can say that my time here has been a balm to my hurting heart and great help to me.

I have found the information at the drop down menus above very helpful. The traits and toolbox offer good insights to understanding what it is we are dealing with and what to do/not to do with these behaviors and traits found here: https://outofthefog.website

Many of our members participate both here at Out of the FOG and over at our sister site Out of the Storm (OOTS) for those of us who identify behaviors that may stem from Cptsd. That combination of both communities is very powerful because each addresses different aspects of this. Here at Out of the FOG we find support for the many challenges we face having a family member with a personality disorder. Over at OOTS we find support for the relational trauma responses we are experiencing.

Here is a link in case you have an interest in finding out more about OOTS: https://www.outofthestorm.website

It is my hope for you that you will find relief and validation as you read and join the conversations. That in interacting here you will know you are not alone. There are many of us who have walked the path of healing and developing insights and tools together. I wish you much strength on your journey and look forward to supporting you.

(just a quick note... I snipped out what looked like possibly a real name from your post to protect your privacy as you share here) 🤗

Thank you Bloomie!  I appreciate the welcome.  & the name was a nickname - not a real one.  But thank you for looking out for me!

Welcome Phoenix rising. This forum is a treasure trove of support, information, wisdom and compassion. I hope you get as much, and more, out of it as I have done.
It gets better. It has to.
