emailing with DS

When DS was away at school I'd occasionally email him from my work email to his school email if there was something I wanted to share with HIM (but not uPDh). (From my work email so uPDh doesn't have access)
Then he was living at home for a couple years and we'd occasionally go out together in the car to run errands, which gave us time to chat 'just us'.
Except that about a year ago he started online grad school, so he had NO free time at home and stopped going with me, THEN he moved out of state.
NOW I only see him in person with uPDh, and we do a 'zoom call' with him once a week when we can't get together (all 3 of us together).
He is still in school so even when he visits for a weekend he is doing homework.
I've realized how much I MISS our 1:1 time...
So this week I emailed him - just with a couple of funny stories that I knew HE would appreciate and uPDh would NOT. (From my work email so uPDh doesn't have access). He replied.
It was nice.
IDK WHY it took me so long to figure out this was bothering me and that there was a fairly simple solution to it (doesn't replace an in-person chat, but DS is not very 'chatty' anyway). It's a good compromise at least.
Plus, there is something sort of 'serious' that I was thinking I want to write to him, but I don't want him to feel like any time I email him it's going to be something heavy -the serious thing is NOT urgent, so I'll hold off til we've had a few light exchanges.

11JB68,

So glad you were able to resurrect your 1 on 1 emails from the past and that your DS took the time to respond.  😊  Congratulations to you and your DS for being a motivated man, working diligently on attaining a graduate degree.  I love a positive story.  My thoughts and prayers for this to be the beginning of regular and developing communication and that your DS is eventually receptive, caring and potentially helpful to you in the more serious subjects.

I'm glad you have a way to interact with him one on one. I know how important it is to me to have that with my adult children.
