Feeling much better recently

Boat Babe

My life rarely settles for long, a combination of external factors that everyone has and my own low boredom threshold and propensity to make decisions rapidly. So, the big thing is that after five years of living on a narrow boat on a river, as an essentially single woman,  I have just move ashore again. I feel that it's a real transitional moment in so many ways. My work with the Domestic Violence charity came to and end in late March and I was pleased and proud to have done some very good work there. I came up out of a winter where I was coming off antidepressants after 21 years (that was fun) However the digging deep that I had to do is paying off and I'm putting lots of healthy stuff in place and cutting right down on booze and other unwise coping mechanisms. I also did a bit of somatic therapy for two months this winter as part of my self care, which always yields insights and techniques. Then my dear friend and neighbor died completely on unexpectedly and I decided that I was done with boat  life. Long story short I sold it really easily and found an ideal place to live for me and doggo. Lots and lots of logistics involved and a few nail biting moments but all done and dusted. Have also managed to go out every weekend as well!  So I'm on the brink of some new life experiences again, which is exciting at 65 whilst keeping all the good stuff (existing friends and projects).

For people going through desperate times, do know that things can change for the better, rarely overnight, but definitely with a bit of luck and a whole lot of intentional living things really can improve once you are away and gone from abusive environments.  I no longer mistake peace for boredom.
It gets better. It has to.

Hi Boat Babe!

Thank you for the update here! I remember when you posted about the medication and it is great to hear that you are doing well. I love what you wrote about not mistaking peace for boredom anymore. That really resonates.

So glad you are finding peace.  I hope you and the doggo enjoy your land based home.

I am at a place where I might be saying goodbye to a few defining parts of life and moving to new interests and challenges.

Good to know it can work out.  Really glad to know it can be exciting at 65.  I have a feeling my life will see a huge transition between 60 and 65.
