Hello,

I am a 32yo male who finally discovered he has BPD.

It took me four exhaustive years of hard, hard work to find my way out of this "fog" and understand who, what, and why I am. I have had diagnosis after diagnosis thrown at me (bipolar, ADHD, social anxiety, autism), but they never felt like a fit for how I am feeling. I have had to do this completely alone, as my disorder has pushed away those who might help, and has left me with only my neglectful and abusive family as support.

This disorder has created the person who I am today, but my biggest fear with now seeking treatment is that the beneficial sides of this disorder will be "fixed" along with the negative aspects - there are parts of my personality that I love, but there are parts that I can't continue to live with.

I've come a long way to get to this point in my recovery journey, but I have miles still ahead of me. Hopefully this forum can help me in that journey, and I am really excited to see what I can learn here!

Any direction or advice on where to go now would be greatly appreciated.

Hi please focus on what is positive but thank God for the good and bad that have come in your life and then see Him work in unusual ways.  Stay in the WORD.

Irene we are glad you are interacting on the forum but please be mindful that we have members from all walks and all faiths and not everyone is a believer.  Share what worked for you in dealing with your own PD/ uPD relationship.

Hi Solipsistic and welcome to Out of the FOG -

Because you have identified yourself as someone who suffers from  BPD,  we want to make sure you're aware of a couple of things as you settle in.

Out of the FOG is a community dedicated to offering support and information to people who have a loved one or family member who suffers from a personality disorder. That doesn't necessarily exclude those who also have a PD from participating but the rule is we come here to discuss our relationship issues as they pertain to the other people in our lives with a PD, and not PD recovery issues as they pertain to the self. If you suffer from, or suspect you suffer from a personality disorder, we welcome your participation as long as the discussion still revolves around dealing with the loved ones in your life with a PD and not on your own recovery from a PD.

Also, we'd like you to be aware that people at a site like this are often hurting a great deal.  They come here needing a safe place to vent about how they may have been hurt by the person in their life with a PD.  At times, these comments can be harsh. Reading them may trigger you, if you are not far enough along in your own recovery to let these comments pass without becoming upset or attempting to speak on behalf of others with personality disorders.

Thanks for your understanding, and again Welcome to Out of the FOG.
