Neighbors (a couple) ruining my home

I lived here with my late pd ex husband who would loudly abuse me. They heard since we share a wall.

The wife became friends with my late ex and stayed friends regardless. Fast forward, the ex died. A year after his death, she and her husband began to gave me the mean stare when they passed my place or if they happened to be on the sidewalk when I entered my home. They began throwing water into my side and back yards.  She began to make up problems that I caused that ruined her property and wanted me to pay her to fix. She screamed at me when I told her I didn't cause these issues. She threw old furniture in front of my place.   The worst is she ridiculed me for being with my late ex.

I went no contact. I installed cameras and have my phone voice recorder on when I go out in the street. Most of this has stopped except for the water. I wrote her an email about it shortly before going nc. She said her place was dry and blamed me for the excess water.  I have months of video proof that the water is coming from their property onto mine. But, I am so frightened about going to the authorities.  Am afraid they'll get out of this and began to destroy other things here out of rage. I am at my wit's end. I can't move because I can't afford it.  My late ex isolated me so I don't know the other neighbors. I believe this crazy neighbor has launched a smear campaign against me with the few neighbors who talk to her.  Am afraid this gossip has gotten around because other neighbors tend to avoid me when I make attempts to talk.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Hello LikeTheSea.
I'm sorry to hear about what you have been through. The first advice usually given here is to check out the ToolBox at the top of the forum. It offers helpful advice on how to deal with people like that and suggestions on how to help you feel better about it all.

The water being sent onto your property, is it causing damage?

Yes it is damaging my property. Will read the toolbox. Thanks.

Read the toolbox last week. I have implemented the suggestions. I decided to look at them as they really are: a random crook on the street trying to steal my purse. am a random victim of someone I don't know.

It helped me detach. I also recalled the lessons in The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker to avoid victimization. Law low, ignore them, don't agitate the situation.  My sleep is better.    I can think better and more strategically.

You seem to be dealing with it a lot better. I'm glad.

I dealt with similar issues, and you have my sympathy! I let the same fear keep me from reporting the harassment for a long time, but eventually the smear campaign against me grew to the point that it was creating legal and financial problems for me, and I had to either fight back or move. I finally fought back, and most of those involved eventually moved. In your case, it sounds like disengaging is working and I hope that continues. Just in case, though, I strongly suggest you keep documenting everything. My treasure trove of evidence is what eventually got the harassment to stop, when I was granted a civil harassment restraining order.

Thanks, Windmill!

Thanks, didntsignupforthis.   Am so glad you were able to resolve your situation.  It's a relief to be free of this.

They aren't stalking me on the street any longer, but the water damage continues. I will keep documenting. I do this daily with video sent to my email address.  I know something needs to be done through my insurance for repairs.  But nothing short of getting the order you received will stop the abuse.
