Im having real problems with "support phone lines"-I find most of the people there cold, silent and unsympathetic. 20 percent seem great-warm, kind, interested-but I cant face wading through the 80 percent to find the few good ones, and I am hurting and feel I need support.

I have no support networks of my own due to the effects of my childhood abuse. I am okay to end a phone call with a helpline if they dont feel right-but it still hurts me to start talking about my very personal and painful issues and memories, only to be met with utter silence, or "yep, then what?", as if I just told them the weather forecast for tomorrow....

How do the rest of you deal with these issues?

Do you use helplines? I am in Britain but wondering generally if anyone has any thoughts overall? Replies dont have to be specific to your country.

Does anyone have any techniques to tell a warm person from a cold disinterested one as quick as possible?   :stars:

I have not used support helplines, so cannot help you there. I have made very good experiences with real life and online meetings of 12 step groups. Depending on your specific problem, you might look at CoDA or EA or Alanon meetings.
I can't hate my way into loving myself.

This may or may not be helpful, so I apologize if it's not, but I find journaling particularly cathartic. It has the added bonus of being something I can do by myself, which has been really useful in moments where I either don't have another person to speak to or the times where I feel like I need to give the people in my support system a break.  (This was especially the case when I was first coming Out of the FOG. I was ruminating on my relationship with my mother almost constantly, and I didn't want to continue flogging that dead horse during every waking moment with my husband.)
