I was referred to this site because I have an adult child who is extremely difficult to deal with. They are amazing at baiting me and I am terrible at responding. I was raised in a family with alcoholism and learned co-dependency as a way of life. I am trying to create strong boundaries that are healthy for them and myself. I is exhausting to love a child but not want to be around them.

Welcome to Out of the FOG.

Race right over to our Toolbox, and check out the Top 100 Traits. In the What To Do section, you'll see the sorts of tactics folks use to manage such relationships when they want to keep them. It is not easy. This is actually hard. So be easy on yourself, and be proud that you are putting the energy in to be your best for a hard person.

We look forward to seeing you on the boards. One is dedicated specifically to parents of potentially PD kids. But since yours is an adult child, you may want to browse further afield to see if other boards resonate with you.

QAJK1968 - adding another warm welcome. I can only imagine how perplexing and painful this must be for you. I am thankful you have joined this warm community of fellow travelers.Loving another so deeply, and yet, not being able to enjoy them at times, living with an ever-present atmosphere of potential strife and frustration takes a terrible toll on us. I am so sorry.

I hope you find your time here encouraging and supportive. I look forward to seeing you out there on the forum boards!
