The toxic jobs cycle: how to get out of it?

I've been in toxic jobs my entire life. I had 3 toxic jobs between 2022-2023 and one left me with emotional scars (the CEO threatened to sue me because I dared talking about his behavior on a Facebook group-yeah, he stalked me on social media and followed absolutely all my posts like a true cyberstalker). I'm now unemployed and am looking for another job. Just had an interview yesterday and it went well. The guy was nice and respectful and it seems like I already have the job.

However, I got the idea of researching the company that hired me and lo and behold, I found so many negative reviews from workers who got screwed by them. The reviews are on Google. Some people said that they weren't paid the agreed salary, they were given a really bad accommodation (the company provides flats), they were disrespected and so on. I'm now on the fence about them. However, I also need work asap because I don't have money.

How did you get out from the toxic job cycle if you had these kinds of jobs? I feel like life is passing me by and I still don't work the type of jobs I want to work (never had a great job btw).

And pls don't tell me to just wait a couple of months or years to find a great job because living without money is horrible. You all know what's that like.

mary i am sorry you are dealing with this.  my building culture is toxic.  i found the two or three people i can TRUST and do just what user says- keep my nose to the grindstone and stay out of the politics.  one thing we have going for us is we have a union, but work bullying is hard to prove and it's not really a well defined clause about it in our contract so not subject to the grievance process.

i listen to the CREAM song by wu-tang clan every day.  cash rules everything around me CREAM get the money, dolla dolla bill y'all. it puts my purpose in focus- i am there to save for my retirement/ pay my bills.

Not many companies put genuine effort into a healthy corporate culture. They care more about P&L and profit margins than employee health. Also, there are a lot of messed up people in this world, and a lot of them end up in leadership positions.

Hello Mary-
Working for one of these companies too :heythere: . Eventually it will be my time to move on, as I am not getting any younger. For the moment I am coping by being hyper-focused on what i have to do. Putting on the blinders...so to speak.
During the worst times i remembered -that when i prayed for an individual that was causing me great distress.......Things changed. It wasn't so bad & Eventually he was terminated. It happened again recently-that person transferred out! Praying for the people that hurt you can help. The Lord can change the situation—change their heart. If they dont change He can move them out of the way!
For my situation-the next step is school. Even at my age- it will help me not feel so stuck. I look forward to being empowered to step forward in the direction of my dreams. I don't want to stay any longer than i have to where I am currently- but i lean on Him to show me. I am so done with the toxic culture too... Take care and good luck with decisions you nave to make.
Hey- Maybe consider school too? Nothing changes if nothing changes-that's what they say, right? Maybe there you will find your passion :cool2:
