Trauma and clutter?

I've heard there could be connections with Adhd and trauma. I also have heard of connections between trauma and clutter. I am working on better habits. I am also curious if there's a reason I end up with so much clutter.

Hi, djcleo.  I have wondered about this same thing for many years.

One thing I've heard is that people who were neglected as kids do not grow up with normal structure and discipline.  Often neglectful parents are too absent to teach their kids any of this and the kids are on their own and aren't used to normal routines (and don't enjoy having them imposed later on).

A few other ideas that are not as well-formed but I've heard alluded to .... that having things less orderly, maybe somewhat chaotic, can create a distraction from feelings that don't seem tolerable like fear or emptiness.  Another thing I read is that some people never get over the belief that they should be punished, and that repeatedly doing something that brings feelings of shame creates that self-punishment.  Also, how we "express" ourselves in our appearance and how we keep our environment might reveal what we think we deserve as in "I don't deserve to live in a beautiful, comfortable place.

I wish you luck with this!
