I had a wonderful few moments the other morning, listening to my favorite music and reflecting on the fact that I don't ever have to dread Mother's Day again. An interlude of true calm and happiness that I'm going to hang onto and cherish.

This morning, there's a text alert on my phone's lock screen, message from Mom! I only saw the first line, which was the hook -- a mention that she sent something she's sure I will want. I didn't read the rest, but according to my spouse, she couldn't help devolving into guilt-tripping, presumably because she didn't hear from me on Sunday.

When the thing arrives, my wonderful spouse will again run interference and inspect it first. If it's something I do want, I will keep it! If it's not, I will trash it.

I only post this because it's classic. If you send something, just send it, right? I sent a friend a birthday card just yesterday, and didn't call, text, or email to TELL him I was sending it. Someone with a different underlying motive than spreading good wishes and happiness (methinks, to lure me into reading the guilt-trippy part of the text, or perhaps to keep me from trashing what she's sending immediately without looking at it?) phrases things this way.

I'm so happy that I don't care. I mainly feel mildly amused.

And kudos to my brother, no flying monkey messages from him!

Gifts are by definition something given (or sent

) voluntarily without payment in return. How smart are you to live in that space and keep or discard as you choose and let the rest go!

Right about now I'd be getting umpteen calls/texts with: has it arrived yet?? Did you get it?? Whats the delay?? Wonder how long the mail takes?

Just a quick update. The card and item arrived, and let's just say the item was something that a narcissistic mom would THINK I would find precious and special, but I don't, at all. Luckily it's not something anyone else would want, so I threw it out. Card went in the recycling without reading!

Phew! Another Mother's Day season, done.
