Has Your Narc Parent Called you a "Narcissist?"

My narc parent loves to do this- she's called so many other people "narcissists," before, and she's done it to me too. I'm already aware that she's diverting the blame away from her, but I wanted to know if there are other people like me who's had to deal with this kind of thing before?

My narc sib calls out other people as narcissists.  Strangely, she actually may be right in many cases.

What's utterly galling is that she doesn't see it in herself.

Not sure if she calls me a narc behind my back, but probably does.

Ah, well there are case in which the narc deals with other narcs- which is the case of the pot calling the kettle black when the narc calls out on other narcs. But yeah, it is truly interesting with how the narc never seems to be aware of his/her own actions as if said person is innocent.

Narcissists don't have self awareness or the emotional capacity to realize they aren't normal. It's part of the arrogant grandiose personality.

Oh yeah.   Not the narc parent directly, but the flying monkeys by proxy.   Add that to the PD parent bingo card.   Didn't help that one FM was also a counselor specializing in PTSD.

I imagine from their perspective, if they've groomed you to be the go to for solving all of their issues and you suddenly engage boundaries....it will seem very cold and unfeeling.   At least those words were definitely bandied about in my family's version of this dysfunction.   And the word is grossly overused lately.   Kind of like bi-polar was in the 80's/90's.   I sometimes struggle with the headings of this website for that reason.   I know that my parents definitely have narc tendencies.....we all do in our own ways.   The only way I can justify calling Dad N and mom BPD is because I've had numerous counselors who have treated me over the years, tell me that I present as a classic child of that combination.   Neither parent believes that they need any kind of insight here.

Bottom line, while your narc might be deflecting the obvious by name calling....the fact that you're actively looking into growth and change and support....contraindicates that label.   Call it projection, wish them peace from afar, and treat that inner child to the support they didn't have in the past.
