Call Me Cordelia

Hey folks, just coming in to share that I've had a couple of opportunities to act normal about my NC situation and it felt really good. We're in a couple of new social settings this year with a lot of people we don't know, so lots of small talk and getting-to-know-you chats. Introvert me doesn't love this sort of thing, but another layer of anxiety was always, "What if they ask about my family?!??"

Well, they did. Where are you from, how many siblings, do they still live there? My answer was, "Honestly, I don't know. It's like that, unfortunately. The Lord knew we needed to be here and we're grateful." Or something like that. I forget exact words but honest with a positive spin which hopefully didn't leave them feeling awkward. I didn't leave it hanging or invite input. But I didn't get judgy vibes at all. And I didn't go into flashback mode! Because I have nothing to be ashamed of here! So hooray!

Congratulations! Isn't it wonderful when you realize how much you have healed already!
I can't hate my way into loving myself.
