PD SIL and Facebook

Well, like clockwork my despicable PD SIL is gloating on Facebook about how "blessed" she is to live in an area where they don't have bad weather unlike the major winter storm we in this area are getting right now.  We're in a state of emergency, but she's posting pics of her "paradise" where the sun is shining and all are happy and well.  Not ONE word about thinking about the rest of you, hope you're safe, take care...nothing, nada.

I would unfollow or even unfriend her because I cannot stand her (this is a second marriage for both) but since she and my brother share a FB account, to do so would also do so to him.  And since I have no issues with my brother (we're not close but we get along fine) I don't want to do that.  But I am so tempted to respond something sarcastic or nasty back, which she deserves, but I haven't.  My brother would also see it and it would likely ruin what little relationship we have (since he's in denial about her PD behavior and caters to her every whim).

Normally I just ignore her inane postings, but I'm not in the mood today.  She's an expert in passive-aggressive behavior and I know this is one of her provocations, so best not to respond.  But damn if it isn't hard.  She's done so much damage over the years, especially in her treatment of my late mother, yet she's never been held responsible since my brother won't admit she's anything less than wonderful (I think he knows the truth but can't admit it, even to himself).

So here I sit with my blood pressure going up, reminding myself that her PD and her relationship with my brother isn't my problem. Still, I want to vent!  Thanks for reading this!  Makes me feel better knowing a lot of you have gone through/are going through something similar with a PD in-law.

Hi Cato the cat!
What an obnoxious post. I feel your anger. You did well by not responding: giving her supply is not worth it! Also, sharing a FB account raises so many red flags! I would snooze her for 30 days. If it gets unbearable, you can unfollow her but remain friends. Your brother has the means to reach you, if he wishes, and you won't get any real updates about his life through her posts.

Yep, that is so true, Broken Glass.  What she posts is her version of reality so I don't really know what's going on.  It's sometimes called "Fakebook" for good reason.  And yes, when it comes to maintaining the relationship with my brother, I have to do the work.  He makes as little effort as possible these days because otherwise she might get too upset.  A few years ago I was talking with him on the phone regarding an issue with our mom, and after a fairly brief conversation I could hear her calling to him so he quickly ended the call.  That's how it goes.  Like I said, I've never been close with him but before she came into his life, I would see him periodically (we don't live in the same state) and he would at least keep in touch with me as much as I would with him.  Needless to say, she ended that.

Thanks for your response! I noticed today she's posted nothing (very unusual for her) so I wonder if some of her FB "friends" gave her some grief  ;) I hope so!

Maybe someone told her that boasting about escaping other people's misfortunes is not socially acceptable!
Social media and PD people is a frightening combination! So many opportunities to get supply and inflate their ego, as well as spy and hate on people.
I am so glad my sis is not on Facebook.
