I'm close to 5 years NC and yesterday I realized my Nmom was following me on instagram. I don't check my follower count because I don't post much but as I was scrolling, insta suggested I 'follow back' a person with my Nmoms name. I immediately blocked and made the account private, it but feel like a fool.

I started the insta after NC and didn't think to make it public or private. I only ever posted some sketches I'd done and never talked about my private life and didn't use my real name. But I followed the college where my kid goes. I follow my kid's account and now I have no idea how much info she has on getting to my newly adult child. My kid has already said they have had nightmares about my Nmom showing up at their dorm.

I'm frustrated that it feels like even after five years I can't just go live a life. My kid can't just go live their life. Everything has to be secured. She is even stalking my LinkedIn page. It's my kid's first year as an adult, her golden child, so I feel like this year might be the worst one as far as hoovering over the holidays. The silver lining is that she is both cheap and often won't do things by herself, so there is less chance of her throwing a lawn tantrum either at my house or at my kid's school because it takes time and money to get there.

Wishing all of us a N free holiday season.

Been there.   Though, my mother spent the money.   I'm a triathlete.   There is a pretty specific sport social media app that caters to the athlete community.   My mom actually spent the money to join so that she could follow my progress because a mutual friend was following me.   Her nose was out of joint that the friend knew more about me than she did....so rather than pick up the phone and call, she spent money she really didn't have to stalk me.    :stars:

With so much online right now, it is difficult to completely shield yourself from anyone or have complete privacy.   Don't beat yourself up.
