Hi!

No idea where to start!

I'm 33 and just quit my job so I can move out of my potentially/ undiagnosed PD mum's home.

It's been 10+ years of gaslighting and abuse that I can no longer handle. (Falling out of love with my job meant my reason for staying so long had gone.)

I'm currently battling the guilt of feeling like I'm abandoning her and my own desire for a life and freedom that I'm not currently having.

Moving has been delayed so struggling with the thought of being in the house with her more so now that I have finished work. Me leaving to stay with friends and family only adds fuel to her fire.

I've floated on this site and forum for years since it was sent to me by my dad. But these massive changes with unknown outcomes have prompted me to post. I suppose in the (hopefully) short term until I can properly leave, it's comforting to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel

Hi ilio5, I won't say "welcome" since you have been around a while, but glad you are posting!

It sounds like the road might be rocky for you for a little bit. I'm so glad you are moving towards getting your own space and your own life. Your mom is probably somewhere in her 50s? If so, around my age, and you are definitely NOT abandoning her. She's an adult and should have her own life and activities to keep her busy.

If you haven't explored the Toolbox section yet, this might be a good time, to get some strategies to help you while you have to cope with her and being in her space until you can make your move. And afterwards, of course, although sometimes getting space can help.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes for you.
