My "Stepmother" is 10 years younger than me.

I was 29 when it all happened, and I am in my early 50's now. I have no relationship with my "Cluster B" nightmare of a father, or his wife.  My brother (18 months younger than me), and I have discussed the fact that she would inherit whatever he has left when he passes. They got together when she was around 19 and my dad was 50's. My parents were married for 30 years and ended divorced because she got pregnant with my half-brother. My half-sister was born 4 years later.

It is hard to try and form any meaningful relationship with my dad's second family because he has stated that they are his priority. As though, his 30 years married to my mom meant nothing to him. I try to reach out to my half-siblings every now and again, but it is hard sometimes because I am old enough to be their mother.

My own mom has long since moved on and is over all of it. Then again, she does not have the biological connection that my brother and I do, and that makes it hard to know how to do the right thing regarding my family situation. For what it is worth, my brother can not stand her. He loves the half-siblings, though.

My father and I have been no contact since 2010. My brother that I grew up with is also NC. Our relationship is irreparable at this point in time. It's a long story as to why, but has it's roots back to when I was a child. The man has resented me since day one. I am the oldest and the bain of his existence. I know, because he always reminded me of it.

As a side note, my father is a Vietnam war veteran (Army) whose parents signed him into the military at the age of 17 because they could not control him. He was looking at prison time.  I have had family members say he was a terrible child growing up, but the military made him worse.

This is more of a vent than anything else. I sometimes feel alone in dealing with my family dynamic, but I am reminded that is not the case when I read through the posts on this site.  :sadno:

Must be a weird thing to have a stepmother who is 10 years younger than you! Sounds like a confusing family dynamic. I have one of those too, not fun.

Vent away! I hope it helps you feel better.

Thank you, SunnyMeadow.  :)

It bothers me every now and again, but I have accepted things for being what they are. Going NC was the best thing I have ever done, considering what that man put my mom, brother, and me through. I feel for my kid brother and sister and what they are dealing with, though. The old guy has become a lot worse with age. :(

I goofed when I used the term bain of his existence. I think the proper word would have been bane.

You mean your family isn't like the Dunphys and Pritchetts in Modern Family?  :bigwink:
You are not required to set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm - anonymous.

uPDM died 3.11.25; VLC/medium chill: uPDSis (suspect both are covert narcissists) uNPD Father died 2017.
Changed from NC for 8 years due to uPDM approaching end of life (confirmed by medical staff)
