Unattractive outdoor Christmas light displays

My PDH just put up our outdoor Christmas lights and the display makes me cringe. I don't know how anyone could think it looks good. He runs out of one colour of lights so adds a set of another colour, different style even, and puts a set of lights around something that it is obviously too short for etc. I'd think he was doing it on purpose except he cares what the neighbours think so I think he honestly doesn't see the ugly. December is going to be a long month!  ;D

Oh, Cascade, your word picture just gave me a great laugh!

My exH used to bring home dead birds and the like and find places to perch them around our yard.  Also moth eaten and rusted out things.  He was grinchy about all holidays so these "treasures" never got wrapped in lights.

Oh, I'd hate to see dead animals used as decor, that must have been difficult to live with! I'll take The ugly lights over that any day.

That may not be a PD trait!   Some of my neighbors have the world's largest collections of those blow up cartoon puffy characters ranging from snoopy to grinch to angels to nativity to strange displays of planes or santa on a Harley all in the same yard.   Totally nice people but I think there is just a certain style that some people just have!

Sounds like a Charlie Brown Christmas, all you need now is a scraggly little Christmas tree.   :bigwink:

If this were a pd trait, then our entire neighborhood is in trouble. No exaggerating. All the displays this year are over the top, blow up decor, and just odd... I think people are venting their overall frustration with the year.

This whole thing has me ROLLING. Our neighbors are pretty tasteful. I'm going to try to figure out if I can put up outdoor lights, I never have because we have no outdoor socket. WHO doesn't have an oudoor socket????!!!!!
The dead birds and mouldering things, though.....UUUUGGGHHHHHHHHH.

Cascade

Hey, we don't have an outdoor socket in the front so my husband runs a long extension cord from our workshop, underneath the door. I hate those big blow up decorations...I bet that will be next. 😜

Out in some remote areas, I have seen horse skeletons attached to wagons driven by human skeletons. As just usual decor. One of the horse skeletons was real. Let's not surmise about the human one! I wonder if those folks are going to Christmas light those things up. Bet my behind they ARE.

There would be a whole lot more PD's if questionable taste was a trait.   I think that can come with any holiday decision

It's only once every 5 or 6 years that H drags himself off the couch and hangs up lights. And they look like they were  done by a 10 year old. As with any accomplishment, so matter how small, he expects praise and accolades. That's  the PD part, I think.
I've set a boundary for myself, this one is both physical and emotional. I will be responsible for care of the inside of the house. The garage and outside are H's area. This was established early on in our marriage. But now, I don't try to direct H or solve problems or beg for Christmas lights in his areas. I just focus on mine. And I do my best not to worry about what the neighbors think.
Dead birds, tho?! I'm so sorry, L2BF
