After all of the drama, it turned out that I got the house I had put the offer in on last week and thought I lost.  There are still a lot of things I question about my decision, but the quirks of the house will be quirks of MY house.  The inspection is on Friday.  As I said to my therapist, it is exciting and hard.  I've been talking about filing since February.   I've been looking for a house since June.  It was easier to keep them as ideas instead of doing them.  As miserable as I am, there is comfort in the status quo.  The devil you know, right?  Everything is getting very real, and I know there are rough times ahead, but i cant wait to start my own life separate from him.

Strange how life moves sometimes. Sometimes it seems like we are stuck and then many things happen at once.  It is possible that you will regret your decision in the future, and that you feel overwhelmed at times. That is normal. I certainly did and it took me almost three years to feel myself again after I moved. Like for you, the status quo had become somewhat comfortable and the wishing and planning for the future was enough some days to make me feel well enought to not do anything. Keep on telling yourself that you have come through the worst.
Now you set things in motion and soon you will be faced with more decisions. Try to keep calm and take good care of yourself - you are the best person to look after your own interests!
I can't hate my way into loving myself.

Congratulations!

A new home is always exciting, if also a little overwhelming. But this is more than that...this is a new start for you, and a chance to distance yourself from your H's PD and addiction fueled behaviors, as well as no longer having to live in your in-laws' home. You will have a calm space that you can make your own, where you can relax and enjoy time with your children.

Good luck to you!

Congratulations!!  What a huge action step you are taking in securing your safety and peace of mind, and that of your children!

You have a contract on a home in a hot real estate market.  It sounds like it will sell quickly, if somewhere down the road, you find it's quirks aren't suiting your needs.  I know worst-first thinking isn't usually advisable, but sometimes, for me, I find that coming up with a plausible answer to my worries often makes them fade!  I hope the inspection goes well, and it's onward from here!!
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
