Hello everyone. I've just joined the forum. I live with my adult son who has recently been diagnosed with BPD. He's also, at the same time pretty much, been diagnosed with ASD. Obviously the symptoms have been there for many years so I'm used to living with him and I've adapted over the years to meet his needs. What I can't adapt to are his attempts at suicide, the most recent of which was very serious. Does anybody else have this with someone they live with who has BPD? Resources for help are overstretched so we're not expecting therapy or help anytime soon. Just wondering how any other people may have been coping with this?

welcome to the forum and i am so sorry you have to be here but at the same time glad you are seeking out support.

there are other parents here who get it who are also dealing with adult children that are suspect of having a PD or diagnosed with a PD sharing their support over on the parenting board.
Parents' Discussion

suicide is serious-  is this what brought about your son's dual diagnosis?  i can't imagine how much more difficult the ASD dx makes supporting him right now.  a concern i have is for you and your safety- what if your son lashes out at you instead of himself?  Is your son still receiving school based services- in my state parents of exceptional children can get services through the school system for several years after they age out of k12 education- i wonder if that would be an option that could give you some help in this challenging time-

we are listening when you are ready to share more- remember none of this is your fault- you didn't cause this, you can't control this and you can't cure it-
