Delusions of grandeur on Nmother's death certificate

I finally decided to request a copy of my Nmother's death certificate to find out if she actually died of what I was told she was dying of for five freaking years. Surprise! She died of something unrelated.

But... an even bigger surprise was to see that her highest level of education was listed as Master's Degree. Ummmm... my mother never made it past high school. In fact, I suspect she may have been a high school dropout.

Only one person in the family earned their Master's and that was me. My brother and sister were sent to college and each earned a Bachelor's. I left home while still in high school and didn't make it to college until I was in my thirties. I had to wait until I was finally earning enough money to pay for it myself. My mother was absolutely livid and refused to acknowledge my achievement.

The big question is how a Master's ended up on her death certificate. I doubt that my enFather, who never went to college himself would have done it. My money is on GC sister who spent years listening to Nmother's whining about how no one "gave her" a college degree (she seemed to think you could just buy one and not have to work for it). I guess sis decided to give her a goodbye gift so she could one-up me in death.

Just when you think you've seen it all.

Even weirder is that someone had to do it for her. Which shows just how deep the dysfunction goes in our delightful little PD families.

Cat of the Canals, right? It speaks volumes about what my sister has become, which is pretty much a clone of our Nmother.

SunnyMeadow, I had never heard of such a thing either. I had no idea that they placed the level of education on your death certificate. I doubt my mother would have known that either, so the decision had to have been made after she died. Yesterday I received a copy of my father's death certificate, which says he had a Bachelor's degree. He went to a trade school, not college. So my sister gave him a college degree, but gave him a lesser degree than she gave my Nmother. Her final gift to our mother was to make her sound more important than my enFather, on a death certificate, something that no one is ever going to see or care about.

The dysfunction here is off the charts.
