I am no contact with siblings and parents for the time being. Now 2 months.

I'm really processing through what has happened to me all these years. All the times I've brought it to their attention. How they've shrugged off the abuse as something that was ultimately good for me. Yet, it only taught me to be a doormat otherwise people will gang up on me and harass me until I assume my rightful place in the dynamic.

My PD sister unsolicited sends me a book about vulnerability from a popular self-help author. This is so ridiculous I can't help but to laugh. My BPD mother has been using my siblings to try to loop me back in.

The audacity is really out of this world. Sending me self help books? Of all things to do when someone asks for space. wow. To my sister, I could sure learn more about being vulnerable. And the Power of Vulnerability  .

I'm trying hard not to assume offense but it is so ironic considering that my sister is not emotionally available and is very status oriented. She's admitted to not wanting to sit with family (including BIL and N&N) and talk with them or be there for them unless they're ready to resolve the problem. She's a wonderful problem solver, quick on her toes, but out of her depth in this arena.

She has used the appearance of being helpful to gain control in the past. I didn't really know how to put that into words until recently, but I've always felt a nudge in that direction. But I now can distinguish what's going on here and it gives me peace now but makes me cringe about the times I've missed it.

I get that they're all people. Everyone makes mistakes. No one has it all figured out. But they're so resistant to listening to what I have to say about their actions towards me that have made me feel deeply uncomfortable and unsafe.

Working with people who are like this is one thing, because at least we both have a common goal. I don't know what I have in common with my immediate family now. I don't want to contain and protect my BPD mother nor my PD sister's feelings at my expense anymore. I don't want to play.

Happypants

If it's the Brene Brown book, I'm sure her approach tends to revolve around authenticity and following your own path for the sake of having peace in your life.  "Thanks.   I already have that book and it's been very helpful."  :bigwink:

So much progress and in such a short space of time!
No more people pleasing at your own expense.
You've dropped the tug-of-war rope and walked away because you no longer want to play.
You've clearly worked out what your book sending sister is up to.

Impressive.
