StarshineFirehawk

Hello, I'm Starshine. I was raised by an abusive father with PD and dismissive/oblivious mother. I had my lightbulb moment about two years ago, but I didn't take my healing seriously until about a year ago. Four months ago I decided to break the cycle completely and walked away from them.

I've been to one therapy session. It was a disaster and I haven't been able to try again yet. For me, this a step in that right direction. But a less scary one?

Pete Walker's CPTSD book saved my sanity. I'm grateful for the tools and insight but I need interaction with people who get it. I feel like an alien.

I'm terrified. My familial support is very limited. I've come back around to loving life and seeing how beautiful it can be. But that doesn't make it any less scary.

I guess I'm just looking for hope and encouragement.

Welcome! Sending you lots of encouragement. Sorry you had a disappointing experience with your first therapy session. See you around on the boards!
I can't hate my way into loving myself.

I think you've come to the right place. Most of us have had that experience of the lightbulb moment. Some of us had no choice but to exclude some people from our lives by going No Contact. And nearly all of us struggle in our various ways with healing from it all.

If you haven't found our Toolbox, head there and read about What To Do. Just perusing those materials will help make it clear that you are not alone.

I look forward to seeing you on the boards.
