This SM post from Lisa Bevere was SO helpful for me! I am looking down the decades of a long friendship where it would've served me well and brought a lot of clarity, direction, and relief from angst and pain to think this through and ask myself this question.

I hope it helps someone else today.

Quote from: Lisa BevereThe secret to finding your tribe is knowing the difference between transactional and transformational friendships.

Transactional Friendships:
Seasonal, centered on convienience and commonality.
These people will be in your room, but not in your corner.
No necessarily unkind or 'bad' people, just not your people.

Trust me... Do NOT make the mistake of attaching the wrong expectations on this relationship. Don't let it wound you when they leave. Bless them, and let them go.

Tranformational Friendships:
Intimate connections that bring out growth mutually between you.
They cheer you on when you win, & remain close when  you lose.
They are there when you need them, & respond when you reach out.

One note here:
There are times when transformational people are genuinely busy, or experiencing hardship, loss or sickness that may limit their ability to respond.

This doesn't mean the've stopped being transformational, only that there is a change in their current season.

You will always be disappointed when you go to the wrong people looking for the right thing.
The most powerful people are peaceful people.

The truth will set you free if you believe it.

excellent points to ponder

I think I purposefully keep people in the transactional category until I fully trust them as a defense mechanism (maybe even a flea at this point) to keep myself 'safe'
