What she doesn't know bothers her....

Had an interaction with my mom last night.   My niece will go off to college this weekend and I had some gifts for her.   They both came over to get them before spending the rest of the evening together.    Don't come for me, but part of my gifts were contraceptive in nature...and also rapid response to an OD available in the US.   Now, not for one minute do I think my niece needs them.   She's smart, but college aged kiddos brains aren't fully formed.   This is something I've given my own child when he went off to school.   It's the reality of their world.   He's been able to step up and help a classmate when those medications wouldn't be available in his state.

As I was explaining this to my niece, as mom was in the room....I said, "Lord knows I made plenty of mistakes when I was in college....this is the time that you make them....and if you can make them without life long consequences and learn from them....that's not necessarily a bad thing".    Mom immediately pressed me for my mistakes....hard.   I just said, I'm here now and ok....so it's all good.    But, she was SO miffed that I hadn't shared all with her.      Boundaries....

Well done! :applause: You don't owe anyone that information.

The truth will set you free if you believe it.

You hinted at the existence of juicy information to be weaponized and then denied her access to it. As right as you were to do that, I'm not surprised by the anger. That's like putting candy in front of a toddler and then snatching it away!

I totally hadn't thought of it that way.   Thank you.   Of course!    She has weaponized all of my human-ness.   Yeah me for not giving her 30 year old foibles.
