Hi, I'm new to the community and curious whether a forum will help me in my healing journey. I specifically grew up in a cult controlled by (shocker) a narcissistic leader. To be honest, I did grow up loving him, as I was indoctrinated to. I've been out of the cult for over a decade.

Over the past 5 years, I had a lot of bad blood with my father in law of 20 years. Couples therapy helped me realize that his behavior reminds me of the cult leader. Specifically the narcissistic behavior.

I'd like to understand how to support my husband as we both learn to be less codependent. While also wising navigating all the things to model a better way for my kids. Also, I want to be more happy :) I look forward to meeting you!

welcome to the group @PoppyLane

we have a couple of different areas of the forum you can check out-

The religious/ spiritual discussion section may help you find some kindred spirits, as well as the dealing with inlaws sections.  You can post in any part of the forum- we only ask that you don't duplicate your posts.

As someone who was trained up in the 'home church' realm I can only imagine.  my grandfather only had dominion over those of us in the home.... I can't imagine what life would have been like if he had the responsibility to shepherd a flock and abused that power.

here's to healthy boundaries and learning and growing with your DH to be better for your kids (and yourselves)!
