Other people's boundaries
« on: January 16, 2017, 05:37:33 PM »
Hello,

I was hoping someone might be able to assist me in finding resources and books. I've been researching books about personal boundaries. And there's lots of stuff about how to set one's own boundaries, but I can't seem to find any books on how to recognize and respect other people's boundaries. Could someone kindly point me in the right direction?

Thanks for your help!

Hi dandaman - welcome to OOTF. You are so right it is vital to learn to recognize the boundaries of others. A really great article that sums it up well is found here: http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/2014/11/05/how-to-respect-other-peoples-boundaries/

If you have had trouble setting and keeping boundaries for yourself then it is understandable that it would be a challenge to recognize the boundaries of others - spoken and unspoken. Have you had some trouble with setting and keeping boundaries?

Just to be sure you're in the right right place for support, OOTF offers both a web site and a forum for those dealing with someone in their lives who has a personality disorder. It might help to read through the Disorders section at the top of the website to learn more about what a personality disorder is - http://www.outofthefog.net/PD.html

Take a look through the resources at the tabs above. We have a great book recommendation section and a book that may address some of what you are struggling with is found here: http://www.outofthefog.net/Books.html  -Emotional Intelligence: 10th Anniversary Edition; Why It Can Matter More Than IQ, By Daniel Goleman

And here is a link to the book recommendations section for self growth and working on us: http://www.outofthefog.net/Books.html

Thanks for joining us. I look forward to hearing a bit more of what brings you here.
