Histrionic mother?
« on: February 11, 2019, 01:58:47 AM »
We suspect that my mother might be histrionic and something else too.

Do any of you know of any literature about growing up with a parent that has this condition?

I can't talk to her about it, I have to keep my distance to be able to live my life.

accrep - Hi there. Oh, the histrionic mother! Exhausting.

A couple of books that have been very helpful to me around this are:

Emotional Vampires - book review found here: https://www.outofthefog.net/forum/index.php?topic=24201.msg226105#msg226105
and here:

And though not directly addressing HPD another book that was very helpful to me is Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents. Review found here:

https://www.outofthefog.net/forum/index.php?topic=58620.msg518868#msg518868

Looking through the book review board is a treasure trove of good books to help you: https://www.outofthefog.net/forum/index.php?board=26.0

The reality is that you cannot have an emotionally mature reciprocal mutual adult relationship with someone who is not emotionally and psychologically an adult.

Hello accrep,

Sorry I donít have any information to you, but I discovered just a couple of days ago that I too have a histrionic mother! That really has opened my eyes to her behaviors and our relationship and I hope for both of us that this is the first step in taking care of ourselves!

Best of luck to you!!
