Hopefully this is not too off-topic.
I listened to this episode of Hidden Brain and was so struck by the author's family custom of sweeping everything under the rug.
OMG, it's my family!   Nothing "bad" was spoken of ever again.  No discussions about difficult subjects.   No processing of feelings.
My parents are not PD, but we grew up in a culture of embarrrassment and silence.   It took a toll on my siblings and me.   We dealt with it in different ways, theirs more destructive than mine.   But it's amazing how non-PD parents can produce a PD, likely in large part by refusing reality.   I'm speaking of my family, not necessarily the family in the story.  But wow, it really struck me emotionally when this author said "I had no role model for how to have a disagreement or to confront someone".   I didn't either.
