Fight or flight
« on: September 01, 2021, 11:08:07 PM »
My husband and posed this question to me:
ďIf it wasnít for your past would the work situation bother you as much or is just the flight or fight instinct taking hold.Ē

Darn it!  Heís right.   Just one more way Iím feeling ďmessedĒ up.  I disconnect.  I withdraw.   But, I also get combative.   I feel attacked.  Iím sensitive.   Sometimes itís rightly so, but sometimes itís not.

<Ironically, or not so ironically, the work situation is a PD situation.   I know I am not ďsafeĒ.  So medium chill it is and NC isnít exactly an option. >

I think many of us have been raised to be afraid of conflict.  We like to smooth things over and keep the peace.  So when conflict happens, we tend to withdraw.  But that also wears on us after a while.  Why should we always be the peace-keepers and the smoother-overs?  So then we get a little testy/combative.

Your instincts seem to be pushing you in the right direction.  In a work situation, where NC is not an option, medium chill is a good way to go.  Good luck!
