SunnyMeadow and moglow - They are all definitely cut from the same cloth.

I think it's partly genetic and partly how they were raised, but I also wonder if they are somewhat a product of their times (as we all are, of course).  I truly wonder if my mom would be a different person if she had been born 20 or 30 years later.  My DH is convinced she would have been a politician.  I'm thinking she'd either be running her own company or be rich from running the world's biggest ponzi scheme.  :aaauuugh:

In any case, I wish I had more insight into the causes - not that it would make one bit of difference in how I need to act (boundaries, medium chill, etc.).  But it would be interesting to know more.

I can't speculate about your mom, but generalized anxiety runs through one side of my family. Myself and one sibling has it, my father and his father had it.  It wasn't caused by anything happening to us, but it definitely is a force that has shaped relationship dynamics through the decades.  In essence, its a trait that one has to become conscious of and find ways to prevent it from causing problems in life.  Tactics such as meditation, yoga, CBT, medication, etc, can be tools, but unless a person is willing to take ownership of it, they will likely act it out in other ways and be more of a victim to it than a friendly companion.

I agree with this: "In essence, its a trait that one has to become conscious of and find ways to prevent it from causing problems in life.  Tactics such as meditation, yoga, CBT, medication, etc, can be tools, but unless a person is willing to take ownership of it, they will likely act it out in other ways and be more of a victim to it than a friendly companion."
