*Positives* to having PD parent

Love this idea and agree that rerouting the wiring toward the positive is something I want to establish and build on.

1.  I see everything. It's a bit of a double-edged sword, because sometimes I wish I didn't, but unless someone is a very covertly toxic person, I can easily see someone displaying PD characteristics and I keep a safe distance from them.

2. I care about underdogs. I notice when someone is being picked on and I step in and give them a hand.

3. I seek help when I need it. I am not grandiose and think that I am perfect, so I will go for counselling and therapy if I'm struggling. In many ways, I've surpassed friends, in terms of emotional intelligence, self-care, health and working on long-term goals because I've had to get help. Some of my older friends, who I think did not have traumatic childhoods are living more unhealthy lives than me, meaning: don't exercise, don't look at their own dysfunctional habits, like gossiping and bullying, chose dysfunctional partners and when i see them in their fifties, the bright person they were is riddled with  health problems and abuse.

4. I have this intense desire to live a full life and believe in life-long learning and improvement at any age. My parents seemed to give up at retirement. I don't think they've walked outside the house, other than the walk from car to casino for fifty years!

5. I have hobbies and small things that give me joy. My mother has television and my father hoarding. I take classes all the time, in learning languages, writing, yoga, mindfulness.

6. Re: cooking. I too had to endure the childhood of overcooked vegetables. Eeek! Asparagus - overcooked - the green mess. I guess this is part of my interest in life-long learning that I love cooking shows and cook books. I eat better than I ever have esp. lately, eating a wide variety of colours, no refined oils, rarely have junk food, am mostly vegetarian, and I save money by making my own coffee, instead of going through drive thru's. I haven't had fast food in years.

there is a confidence and tranquility." John O'Donohue
