Call Me Cordelia

 :yeahthat:

I was also SUCH a colicky baby.

Lunacy also to blame someone for existing. ("You ruined my career," and that sort of thing.) Supposing a child could CAUSE her own existence!?! Do we need to back up to the basic facts of life here, mother? You yourself are one of the efficient causes of my existence, so therefore...

The other thing it shows is the inability to recognize change. I was a colicky baby, however that conclusion was reached. So it was taken for granted that I would always be difficult, and there was nothing I could do to change that perception of me as a child or even as an adult. Fixed mindset in the extreme.

Hattie

Family holiday when I was 18:

Me: leave my alone, mum!
Mum: I've scarcely said two words to you all holiday!
Brother: yeah.... "your fault"
Love is patient; love is kind.
It does not envy; it does not boast.
It is not proud. It does not dishonour others.
It is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered.
It keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

1 Corinthians 13: 5-8.

looloo

Painful labor/delivery
Nmother never got her figure back (more due to sedentary lifestyle and compulsive overeating - she gained weight AFTER her pregnancy)
My "temper" (as a baby, I guess I cried and screamed?)
I couldn't be held? I would push her away?  (Maybe she just held me uncomfortably or maybe I instinctively didn't trust her....)

As I got older:
I caused my father's rages and endangered his health because of his high blood pressure.
I wasn't supportive enough of an unstable friend of hers-that's why she attempted suicide when I was about 11.
I didn't have any idea what I wanted to do re-school or career because I was "lazy".
I only "cared about her checkbook."  Money is the only thing I ever cared about (I'm the gainfully employed one, my brother was the one who needed handouts and bailouts).
Now that she's 91 and I'm her long distance caregiver, I just want to "ruin her life" (as I've been propping her up and keeping all the scammers away for the past 12+ years so she can age in place and "live independently" 🙄).
"If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you."  Oscar Wilde.

"My actions are my true belongings. I cannot escape the consequences of my actions. My actions are the ground upon which I stand."  Thich Nhat Hanh

Gaining Clarity

First, that story about the dogs is just heartbreaking.

Two weeks before going off to University, still 17 at the time, my uNmom came into my room, sat down in a chair and said, "You know, I've been thinking about all of our family problems. I've come to realize that you are at the root of all of them."

Nice send off to university, huh?

I'm more the Lost Child, but I'm blamed for moving away from Borg Central. Not that they're really bothered, but when something goes wrong for ME, they have to state they can't support me ...because I'm too far away . My bad (telephone's apparently not being a thing , unless they want me to listen to them) .
The real nub is that them not being able to drum up empathy makes them feel bad , about themselves/ the superficial faaaaamily image of togetherness . So they'd rather say it's the physical distance.
Nuts !!!

( UK here - does nuts mean insane in the US ?)

The Butterfly Effect

I was blamed for my parents arguing.
I was told I was 'a mistake'.
I was blamed for being a colicky baby and draining her (she confessed to wanting to suffocate me in my cot)
I was scolded for not doing domestic chores to her standards.
I was pitted against my GC sister then blamed for the fall outs.
I was blamed for her lazy bowel and abdominal distention/pain because she put me first as a child and never went to the toilet when she needed  Nothing to do with the fact that she abused her body and purged it with laxatives for years and well before I was born!
I was blamed for her sadness/anger/apathy...
