I don't know how you can tolerate it. If it was me, I'd lie awake at night trying how to figure out a way to get rid of all the useless stuff. Maybe a fake robbery? 😄 I work with someone who is a bit of a hoarder and her work station is beside mine and she saves crazy things too, but not quite to the level of vacuum bags full of debris.

My in laws had a flooded basement and everyone was sort of happy because it meant that they could finally rent a dumpster and get rid of all the junk.  I, and a few SIL's, were there to help.  MIL picked through a pile of newspapers and sort of refused to cooperate until the guys asked us in laws to leave.  Once we left she got to work but it was so painfully slow that the guys lost their patience and got aggressive about tossing.  To their credit - everything was waterlogged and unusable and they only had the dumper for the afternoon.  But then they made her toss out junk in other parts of the house which made her very resentful because that stuff was still "good".

Sometimes it's ok.  I focus on those times.   What gets me depressed is asking "why?".   Correct that OCD is a disorder where people are internally wanting to stop and they know the anxiety is debilitating but they can't stop washing their hands or locking and unlocking the door four times.

I have some good defenses for myself to protect me.   The difficulty is the randomness and the intensity of the anger.   The boundary of "I'm not going to let someone treat me like this" in terms of stating "you can't treat me like that and I'm not speaking to you until you calm down" results in an escalation that like-the police call against her husband over parking in a numbered parking spot at night at a high school while unloading stuff-will continue until someone has agreed that she is right and the error must be corrected.

Today in prep for fily coming I threw away a daughters hairbrush that was left in a vehicle that ansl has less tham 1/3 of the little bristles left.   She regularly inspects the garbage and when she found that she lost it.  Her concerns were who threw it away, did anyone ask my daughter and do we know how much a hairbricha costs and and about the people who made it and how long has my daughter had it and used it.   In reality I didn't, it's been laying in the family suv in the back seat jumble for months, it's falling apart, is a small sized piece of plastic with plastic bristles that are falling out and I actually know  absolutely nothing about the cost of hairbrushes.   But I made an educated guess, I threw it away and I'm guessing the cost is probably less than 10 and almost certainly less than 20 and if the daughter even notices I'll be surprised.   But her anger was incredible.  And I wound up taking it out of the trash

It's very hard to live with someone's mental illness. Can you give your self a Christmas gift of «  days away »? Maybe plan for your future, even if not acting on it now.    Good luck.
