I'm so sorry, Bloomie.  I don't have many words of wisdom right now as I am going through something similar.  Just wanted you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you. Hugs, Adria

Adria - I am sorry you are going through something similar. Thank you for your kind words.

An update is that things are slowly getting resolved and completed, but am finding out it will be at least a year before the last legal/financial requirements are met with mil's estate.

I continue to watch sil create chaos and confusion each step of the way when something is needed from her. To be honest, I have begun to be concerned about some sort of cognitive decline, but then I recognize obfuscation and heel dragging with each direct request followed by accusations, demands for more...of everything... like duplicate paperwork - claiming she never received it , multiple instances of documents sent to DH instead of attorney or financial institution when instructions have been clearly communicated more than once, snail pace follow through with full knowledge she is holding things up...and then radio silence when contacted.

I have begun to establish myself separately from the family investment group and will be meeting with an attorney in the coming weeks to understand my exposure to liability for any decisions they may make and my options for how to go about bypassing it all. That bit feels good.

The balance between staying informed and not talking about all of it more than absolutely necessary is trickier than I want to admit. It is also really hard to stick to the facts and not speculate with each new hold up and hitch we encounter with sil and other family members.  :aaauuugh:

The truth will set you free if you believe it.

Bloomie, sorry that mil's estate is going to take at least a year.  Also sorry sil is creating such a barrier to progress.  As you stated, seeing a developing pattern of purposeful confusion and delay leads to the thought of healthy cognitive abilities.

:yeahthat:  Yay!!  Well done Bloomie!!
