Mother would never allow me to be ill as a child -- is this common?

Thanks. It was scary. I felt I was suffocating all the time. I rushed to emergency for it (they also thought of a heart attack, symptoms are alike)). I called dad. Thinking I would die. And he said he didn't want to talk, because I was being difficult.
