My plan is a small gift via amazon and a "thinking of you" text.   I feel like it isn't enough...but it is what I feel comfortable with now.   And, it is truthful.   I will be thinking of her on Mother's Day.   Though, likely not for as much as she'd wish me to be.

Gonna skip that day this year like the years before. I clearly remember how anxious I felt the first time and how thick the FOG was but at the same time it felt very liberating and I never went back to showing up on that day in any way. It feels pretty uneventful by now.
To me it seems like I would still be under her spell if I reacted one bit that day or like I would sent a "thank you" card to my rapist.

Thinking back of how much of narcissitic supply she got out of that day, the honouring, praise and admiration, I guess that just by skipping this day I qualify beautifully as a full member of the club.

Hopping on to wish all the moms, stepmoms, grandmas, aunties, mentors and friends who mother others in a healthy way - Happy Mothers Day.

Just enjoy the day. I am not a mom. I am an auntie. A baby sitter. I'm a mother to myself and that is often what we need when our external mothers fail to protect us.

Aingeal

I have Narcmom burnout.  I opted out of Mother's Day this year.  My Narcm has been triangulating me and siblings..... I knew she would do her best to passive aggressively spew her out downs and criticisms the entire day and as usual try to pit her offspring against each other for her own entertainment.  Especially on Mother's Day - like a spoiled bride - It's Narcmom's day.  One peep of dissent to her attacks makes the little scapegoat a jerk who ruined the day.

So I uninvited myself. Sent a happy Mother's Day text, put phone on airplane mode, doom scrolled, watched movies and ordered takeout  :)

BTW  for years I tried to find the perfect Mother's Day card in the "for anyone" section of the card aisle, non gushy, non committal, have a nice day card was all I could handle
