I just finished this book, it is very informative on aspects of the Psychopath's "inner workings"; dispelling the myth that the psychopath is mainly a violent, serial killer.

I recommend to anyone who wants more knowledge on this particular class of the disordered.

I, too, read Without Conscience and I agree that it does an excellent job of explaining the thought processes of a psychopath.

While inability to empathize is one of the criteria, there are many, many more.

I liked the fact that the book clearly explains the differences between an Anti Social Personality Disorder (whose characteristics meet the first half of the psychopath criteria) and a true psychopath.

I also concur that Dr. Hare explains why it's not only killers and convicted criminals who meet the definition.

If there was a shortcoming to Without Conscience, it would be this: I wish the book had given more details about the psychopathic checklist and been more specific about the interview process so we could benefit from these tools.

If anyone has ever wondered whether someone's behavior rises to the level of psychopathic, here's where you'll find some answers!

I enjoyed Robert D. Hare too. He consulted on The Sopranos and I believe Silence of the Lambs. I really found a voice by Martha Stout too.
