Here are two really good articles I just read about the underlying selfishness of the victim mentality. I found these really helpful and I hope some of you do as well: https://www.isaiahhankel.com/3-strategies-on-how-to-deal-with-toxic-people-who-have-a-victim-mentality and https://www.isaiahhankel.com/other-peoples-happiness

Psuedonym - These are both great articles! Thanks for sharing them. I am going to move this over to the Other Media Resources board so that these helpful articles don't slip down the page and get lost and so that more members can see them. ;)

The best advice I was ever given was a couple years out of college in my first engineering job:  "You want to succeed in this company?  Don't be a victim.  NEVER be a victim.  Whatever happens, figure out what role you played in allowing it to happen, then don't let it happen again."

In a nutshell, victimhood is the problem I have with my in-laws, and thanks to that sage advice I was given, I recognized it almost immediately after meeting them the first time.  They are consummate victims, thrive on pity, and feel entitled.  It's EXTREME -- totally over the top ridiculous, and gets worse and worse as they get older.

Until reading this first article, I never realized that victimhood and entitlement were two sides of the same coin.  This really explains A LOT, and makes me want to research this more.  Thanks for posting the article. Down the rabbit hole I go ...
