I found this book reassuring, practical, sensible and easy to understand. I read it a few months ago and will be rereading it again soon.

I came upon it in my search for healing after finding my foray into Buddhism difficult for me at this stage of my development, and I found that Stoicism has a lot to offer us in today's world and is a very pragmatic and non-esoteric approach. It overlaps with aspects of Buddhism and other belief/religious systems, along with touching on many factors integral to Cognitive Behavoural Psychology.

I want to add that Stoicism is not about putting up with horrible situations. It is a nuanced philosophy that presents alternative viewpoints to dealing with difficulties, as opposed to the common idea of being stoic - that one simply has to white-knuckle it through life.

So if a down-to-earth view that has stood the test of time and offers some pathways out of confusion appeals to you, I highly recommend it.
