happy to have discovered this forum!

married to a man who grew up in a normal family w/o the chaos I had growing up
after seeing how his parents & siblings interact, it has been illuminating to me how a family can function

I was the scapegoat, according to a counsellor our family went to when I was younger
due to mostly emotional abuse but sometimes physical, I became a very shy child and was still quiet when met future spouse

becoming a parent to an outgoing & social child has enabled me to speak up more, share opinions, and interact more with others

so hi

welcome to the group jolie40!

i came because of something that was going on with someone i was 'friends' with, stayed to heal from a bad former relationship and made that connection that it all stemmed from my relationship with my biological mother.  it's been life changing/ life altering now once i learned to view my experiences and make judgments with a different lens-

take care and see you on the boards!

thank you for the warm welcome xredshoesx!

finding this forum has been great
know it's only been a few days but can't stop logging on, reading, and posting

growing up, it seemed I was alone with the worst parents ever
my friend's parents seemed kind and were all nice to me

reading other's stories makes me realize there are others like me
however, it really is a shame that so many of us had tough childhoods

Hi Jolie40! I'm new too (will introduce myself properly soon). I just wanted to say I also grew up with low confidence and was shy. I really think this is due to my family background. Although I'm happy and 'successful' I often wonder what could have been if I'd been given the love and support of a healthier mother. I'm moving forward the best I can anyway and giving my own children the unconditional love they deserve so they can be the people they truly are. It's nice that our children can help us heal  :)
