Is it just me, or does anyone else relate too closely to all of the recent 20/20 episodes where husbands killed their wives?  I'm just getting around to watching Friday's episode, and I kept thinking...that is so much like my husband.  Wanting to take the kids to show them off, but not be involved in any work or responsibility...the flat out lies.  I'm looking at the interviews of him, and I am like, That is the look I get!  Maybe I'm just paranoid.  But it is not normal that I'm relating to this...

Boat Babe

Hiya. I don't know what the 20/20 thing is but I have done DV work with the Metropolitan Police in London.

All the women (and it was women) had the same story. Lovebombing, then Devaluation, Control and Violence.  The names were different, the socio-economic backgrounds were different and a few, surface details were different but the story arc was always the same, always.  This struck me like a speeding truck one day as I was reading yet another case file at the start of a shift.  It did enable me to be a more effective counsellor and advocate for the victims.

Murder and horrific violence are the logical endgames for the most disordered PDs. Scary but true.  Always be aware of Escalation and have a foolproof escape plan.

NB. working for a DV project did not stop me from a second relationship with a guy with an uPD some twenty years later. Good ole co-dependant me!
It gets better. It has to.

Stillirise

Yes. I actually made a post awhile back, about my life as a dateline episode. (Similar, real life crime drama type stuff, for those not familiar.)   I understand "the look" all too well.

I feel like strong boundaries, and various personal safety protocols are my best defense right now.  Hang in there!
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
