I know that some of us here are in relationships with someone who hoards. This particular question: "Is hoarding related to disassociation" has come up and I finally found an article related!

Here it is: https://www.discussingdissociation.com/2009/12/compulsive-hoarding-and-dissociative-disorders/

"It is not my job to fix other people; everyone is on their own journey."

Call Me Cordelia

Oh my gosh Shop and Drop. That was my grandfather... He would go to the auction and buy the boxes of random junk at the end for a couple of dollars. It was a mystery box, you didn't know what you were bidding on. He would take it home, sometimes not even look inside, and dump it in the garage. He had a two car garage with no room for a car.

A common hoarder line seems to be, "You'll see how valuable it all is when I die." Coins, "collectibles," baseball cards, old toys... Junk. I never thought of it as identifying with the stuff. Throwing out their stuff is throwing away THEM.

Yes, Cordelia! And the part about their need to "connect with items and animals as opposed to people" really does make sense.
